The Jury Citation notes;
Ben Milbourne is the 2017 recipient of the Victorian Emerging Architect Prize.
The energy, breadth and quality of Ben’s endeavours is striking. He is the sole director of Bild Architecture, was a co-founder of Regional Associates, maintains a collaborative installation art practice and is a co-founder of NAAU. Through built work, speculative projects, research, education and collaboration, Ben demonstrates exceptional leadership and dedication to the environmental and social concerns of our age.
Ben is a true industry leader. As director of Bild he has been investigating urban adaptation in response to climate change, with his speculative project ‘Saturation City’ exhibited at the 2010 Venice Architecture Biennale. At RMIT, he is actively involved in research into future cities, material technologies and construction systems.
With funding from the ARBV he has been investigating the future of architectural practice at RMIT. With Regional Associates he was engaged in the development of disadvantaged communities. Through his collaborative practice NAAU, he is working with municipalities in NSW and Victoria, developing business case studies for public projects.
Ben is to be commended for his spectacular emergence.
