![]() SIMON WHIBLEY RMIT Senior Lecturer in Architecture (UAL) Practice: Antarctica simon.whibley@rmit.edu.au Qualifications BArch (University of Auckland) MArch (RMIT) Memberships / Registrations /Apnoms Registered Architect in Victoria Biography Simon Whibley (born Wanganui NZ, 1971) has combined extensive practice experience with architectural research and design teaching. Since immigrating to Australia in 1997, Simon has worked in practice on significant public projects, such as Federation Square, prior to commencing lecturing at RMIT in 2004. His design research interests lie at the intersection of architectural and urban design, a focus on the implications of the architectural project for the city. In Antarctica, the practice he co-directs, he undertakes projects within the public realm of Melbourne’s suburbs and regional Victoria. More recently, Simon has be co-leading a design research project with the Victorian Government examining the potential of distributed workplaces to develop Victoria’s regional and outer suburban centres. In addition to designing a number of private residences Simon co-convened the 2006 Urban Architecture Laboratory (UAL) International Housing Conference, Rehousing, and co-edited the book that followed. Simon is also affiliated with the Victorian Eco-Innovation Laboratory (VEIL); a design research project to develop resilient and sustainable futures for Australian cities, with an emphasis on distributed systems.
