Biography
DR RICHARD BLACK is an architect and a Senior Lecturer at RMIT University and is a partner with Michelle Black in Times Two Architects. His PhD titled ‘Site Knowledge in Dynamic Contexts’ explored the role of site in the architectural design process. The research demonstrated how on-site and off-site operations can have a significant impact upon the architectural design process. The research was tested out on case study locations along the River Murray floodplain, examining the interaction of built environments and the ecological process of the river. This work will feature in the forthcoming X_Field group exhibition and in a solo exhibition at the Centre for Art + Environment, Nevada Museum of Art in 2011 – (and is the first architectural work to be archived in the Museum’s collection); and will also feature in an exhibition titled “Water: Curse or Blessing!?” at Aedes Gallery East, Berlin, Germany. Richard has co-authored three books on his teaching and research activities.
