RMIT ARCHITECTURE EVENTS current | past events ARCHIVE OF EVENTS IN 2010 SEMESTER 1 ![]() PUBLIC LECTURE Perry Kulper Augmenting Realities Time: Friday July 2, 6pm, drinks @ 5.30pm Venue: RMIT Building 8, Level 11, Room 8.11.68 Convenor: Gretchen Wilkins, RMIT Architecture Senior Lecturer The current generation of architecture students will likely retire between 2050 and 2070. Given the present range and speed of cultural, geographic and political changes, it is impossible to determine what questions will be on the table for the architect between now and then. To participate with these inevitable shifts Kupler suggests broadening and diversifying our skills sets. Given the expanding roles of the architect, he campaigns for increased design versatility and dexterity focusing on three areas that might further open our capacities to contribute to the cultural imaginary over the next decades: design methods; visualizing, drawing and imaging spatial propositions; and broadening our conceptions of architecture. Perry Kulper is an architect and a faculty member at the University of Michigan where he has taught architecture for the past four years. He graduated from Columbia University and worked in the offices of Eisenman/ Robertson, Robert A.M. Stern and Venturi, Rauch and Scott Brown. He worked in Los Angeles for 16 years, making speculative projects, primarily through drawings and taught at SCI_Arc. Some of his recent interests include the roles that representation, history/ theory, studio culture, pedagogical models, reviews, lectures, post-educational practices and so on, play in architecture education.
