RMIT ARCHITECTURE PROFESSIONAL DEGREE STUDENTS - COMPETITIONS, AWARDS & PRIZES » page 1 | page 2 ![]() RAIA STUDENT BIENNALE AWARD WINNER Eugene Chieng, RMIT Architecture student Singapore Art Space: Site For Cultural Production, Site For Cultural Experience RMIT Architecture final year Design Thesis Major Project, Semester 2, 2003 Supervisor: Ross Ramus winner: RAIA Colorbond Steel Student Biennale Award, 2004 Article: Student Biennale Winner - Eugene Chieng, RMIT University, Singapore Art Space: Site For Cultural Production, Site For Cultural Experience, Architecture Australia, Nov/Dec 2004 Jury Citation: "This scheme was distinguished by a particularly principled mission statement which established reassuring objectives. The challenge as identified by the student is to create meaningful and moral public spaces in a city that is presently spiralling into over-development. It is an even-handed presentation involving both thorough primary analysis of the existing Singaporean conditions and an elegant proposal to reinforce the cultural life of the city. It provides an alternative to the contemporary single icon building solution, as it creates an urban platform for Singaporean life. The presentation was enhanced by the analysis of a built model and whimsical collages." There were 158 entries received from 16 Architecture Schools across Australia. 10 RMIT students entered the competition. 5 of the 11 finalists were RMIT Architecture students, including the winning student.
