Contemporary architecture is littered with twisted hulks that had as their unfortunate origin, a metaphor in mathematical models such as the Möbius Strip or fractal geometries. This building however, uses such models intelligently to generate rich spatial, material and pattern outcomes.” ![]() RAIA VICTORIA STATE AWARDS 2008 Nigel Bertram, RMIT Architecture Senior Lecturer Director, RMIT Urban Architecture Laboratory Practice: NMBW Architecture Studio with Marika Neustupny, Lucinda McLean Project: "Elwood House" winner: RAIA VIC State, Residential Architecture, Alterations and Additions, Architecture Award, 2008 ARTICLE Paul Walker, "Elwood House, NMBW Architecture Studio," in Architecture Australia, July/August 2008 ![]() RAIA VICTORIA STATE AWARDS 2008 Nigel Bertram, RMIT Architecture Senior Lecturer Director, RMIT Urban Architecture Laboratory Practice: NMBW Architecture Studio with Marika Neustupny, Lucinda McLean and RMIT Urban Architecture Laboratory Project: "Pioneer Museum Plaza," Jeparit winner: RAIA VIC State, Regional Prize, 2008 RAIA VIC State, Small Project, Architecture Award, 2008 ![]() RAIA VICTORIA STATE AWARDS 2008 Peter Corrigan, RMIT Architecture Lecturer, Adjunct Professor Practice Director Edmond and Corrigan with Maggie Edmond Project: "Lux Residence Alterations," Caulfield winner: RAIA VIC State, Small Project, Architecture Award, 2008 ![]() SUSTAINABLE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMPETITION COMMISSION Project: Housing design for two families, competition entry Designers: Shane Murray, Graham Crist and Diego Ramirez, RMIT Architecture Practice: Metropolitan Housing Laboratory Winning commission: VicUrban Sustainable and Affordable Housing Competition, 2007 Announced August 02, 2007 VicUrban Media Release VicUrban intends to build the first three display homes in metropolitan Melbourne in Autumn 2008. Perhaps the most engaging aspect of this portrait is the use of multiple voices to tell the story. This seems wise. Slightly larger than life, with great presence and firm views on design, politics and society, Kevin Borland’s character might challenge the skills of any one author. Through the essays by Daryl Jackson, Conrad Hamann, Peter McIntyre, Norman Day and several members of Borland’s family, the reader gradually accumulates a rich tapestry of anecdotes, adventurous projects, affectionate memories and striking remarks, which round out the picture of an architect at work as teacher, critic, and committed practitioner. Without this book, the work and life of a significant Melbourne architect might have been lost to later generations. This award also recognises the support of RMIT in the monograph series, an important publishing initiative which deserves to continue." ![]() RAIA WA STATE AWARDS Martyn Hook, RMIT Architecture Senior Lecturer Adrian Iredale, RMIT Master of Architecture (research by project), 2008 Finn Pedersen, RMIT Master of Architecture (research by project), 2008 Practice Directors: Iredale Pedersen Hook Project: Gooseberry Hill House Alterations + Additions winner: RAIA WA Chapter Laminex Group Award for Residential Architecture - Housing, 2007 ![]() FEDERATION FELLOWSHIP Mark Burry, RMIT Innovation Professor of Spatial Information Architecture awarded: Federation Fellowship, Australian Research Council, 2006 RMIT Openline Article: RMIT Professor Mark Burry receives Federation Fellowship Professor Burry was recognised for his international leadership in the field of “complex architecture and convergent design” by being awarded the ARC Federation Fellowship, one of Australia’s most prestigious fellowships designed to develop and retain innovative Australian researchers of international standing. ![]() ORDER OF AUSTRALIA Professor Leon van Schaik awarded: The Order of Australia, 2006.
